3 injured in clash between Jubo Dal groups in Gulistan

Three Jubo Dal leaders were injured in a clash between two factions of the organisation over footpath and transport businesses in Gulistan, Dhaka, on Tuesday afternoon.

The clash broke out around 4:00 PM on October 13. The injured were identified as Zafar Khan Mona, former vice-president of Paltan thana Jubo Dal; Faruk Mahmud, general secretary of Motijheel thana Jubo Dal; and Abdullah Zayed David, a candidate for the post of president of Wari thana Jubo Dal.

Mona was seriously injured and admitted to Evercare Hospital in the capital in critical condition.

Emdad Patowary, former president of Ward 39 Jubo Dal, alleged that Mona, Mahmud and David suddenly attacked and looted a BRTC counter in Gulistan. He said ordinary transport workers became angry and got involved in a clash with them.

Patowary added that an argument broke out between him and the three leaders because he was involved in both Jubo Dal and labour politics. He alleged that they attacked him, further angering the workers.

However, David, who was among the injured, denied the allegations and gave a different account. He said they had gone to the Osmani Park area when Patowary’s men launched a sudden attack on them.

David said they were preparing to file a case over the incident.

Attempts to contact Faruk Mahmud by phone for comment went unanswered.
