CUET VC confined for 24 hours, students call rally at Shahbagh

Newly appointed CUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Sheikh Shariful Alam along with 10 others remained confined inside the university's Administrative Building-2 for nearly 24 hours over his resignation demand.

Protesting students kept padlock on both the inner gate and the main entrance of the building on Tuesday, demanding the immediate resignation of the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor.

Protesting students provided breakfast to the confined VC and others around 11:00 AM on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, current and former CUET students residing in Dhaka scheduled a protest rally and human chain at Shahbagh at 4:00 PM on Tuesday to resolve the ongoing campus crisis and protest attacks on student buses.

Civil Engineering fourth-year student Ejaz Mahmud Khan reaffirmed that the VC will remain confined until he steps down. He claimed the VC voluntarily chose to stay past the deadline given to leave on Monday, adding that students ensured morning meals reached those inside.

Students held an overnight sit-in program in front of the administrative building on Monday, spending the night at the venue.

Students from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) issued statements expressing solidarity with the CUET protesters.
