State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has sought Algeria’s cooperation in the energy sector to ensure Bangladesh’s long-term energy security.
She made the request during a courtesy meeting with Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdelouahab Saidani in Dhaka on Monday.
The two sides discussed cooperation in trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, climate change, sports, culture and people-to-people contacts.
Shama also stressed the importance of cooperation in the fertiliser sector to ensure Bangladesh’s food security.
Noting that both countries are vulnerable to the adverse effects of global warming, she said they could work together to address the challenges posed by climate change.
The state minister encouraged greater exports of perishable and environmentally friendly jute and jute products to Algeria. She also underscored the need to strengthen cooperation in sports and culture.
The Algerian ambassador reaffirmed his commitment to deepening the friendly relations between the two countries through increased cooperation in energy, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, sports and culture, as well as exchanges of high-level visits.
