Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh airport as “unlawful and inhumane,” pledging Türkiye’s support for the kingdom, according to Anadolu Agency on Monday (October 12).
Erdogan expressed condolences to the families of those killed, including Umrah pilgrims, and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to peace and stability across the Middle East.
The attacks on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport killed at least 13 people and injured more than 300 in Saturday’s strike, according to the Associated Press. A subsequent attack on Sunday reportedly killed one person and injured nearly a dozen others, according to Reuters.
Erdogan also said Türkiye was preparing to submit the joint defence agreement signed by Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in August to parliament for approval.
The latest developments have heightened regional security concerns, with Saudi Arabia investigating how its air defence systems failed to stop the deadly attack.
