The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken action against six CNG filling stations in Gazipur over alleged irregularities in gas supply and illegal sales, disconnecting their gas connections and imposing fines totalling more than Tk 2.05 crore.
A joint drive was conducted throughout Monday from 11:00am by the ACC, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company and the Department of Explosives.
The operation was led by Enamul Haque, assistant director of the ACC’s Gazipur Integrated District Office.
According to sources involved in the drive, Riaz Filling Station was fined more than Tk 2 crore over alleged irregularities involving captive power and CNG connections being classified under the same category.
Five other stations — Mahbub Filling Station, Mam CNG Station, Al-Hera CNG Station, Bless CNG Station and Sushal CNG Station — were each fined Tk 1 lakh for allegedly supplying gas illegally through cylinders. The fines imposed on these five stations totalled Tk 5 lakh.
The allegations also included withholding gas supplies intended for customers to create an artificial shortage, as well as supplying gas through tankers and cylinders in violation of regulations.
The ACC said such joint drives would continue to prevent irregularities and corruption in the gas sector.
