Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, leader of the ruling party's parliamentary wing, has instructed lawmakers to nominate popular and well-supported leaders for the upcoming local government elections while ensuring heightened vigilance to guarantee a peaceful Durga Puja.

The Prime Minister issued the directives during a meeting of the ruling party's parliamentary faction on Sunday (October 11) evening, which lasted for over three hours.

Attending lawmakers stated that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman delivered a 30-minute address emphasizing party discipline, unity at the grassroots level, and zero tolerance for corruption, extortion, or abuse of power—warning that offenders will face strict legal and organizational action regardless of political identity.

A state minister present at the meeting noted that the Prime Minister highlighted the imperative of field-level unity ahead of the upcoming local government polls, urging MPs to field clean, dedicated, and widely accepted candidates capable of securing public trust.

The meeting also thoroughly reviewed security preparations for the upcoming Durga Puja festival. Lawmakers were directed to stay vigilant in their respective constituencies, collaborate closely with local law enforcement, and prevent any untoward incidents or provocations to ensure a safe and festive environment.

In addition, MPs were instructed to actively counter misinformation regarding the country's economic and energy sectors, maintain close ties with their constituents, and highlight the government's development achievements over the past seven months.

It was also disclosed during the meeting that the next session of the Jatiya Sangsad is expected to commence on November 8, with another parliamentary party meeting scheduled prior to its opening. Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni later confirmed to reporters that the party will field unified, single candidates in the local government elections.
