Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained two Myanmar nationals and seized 200,000 yaba pills in separate operations in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban.
The information was disclosed in a press release signed by Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, commander of the Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB), on Sunday morning (October 11).
The detained individuals were identified as Md Islam, 25, son of Md Hossain of Block 81 in Camp 8 at Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar, and Md Mojibullah, 23, son of Md Jalil of the same area.
According to the press release, a patrol team from the Ghumdhum Border Outpost (BOP), acting on a tip-off, conducted a special operation around 9:00 PM on Saturday in the Jamal’s enclosure area, about 200 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar No. 32. During the operation, the team detained two Rohingya men and seized 10,000 yaba pills.
In a separate operation early Sunday, a special patrol team from the Baishphari BOP, acting on a tip-off, searched the Madhyapara area, about 100 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar No. 35. The team recovered another 190,000 yaba pills abandoned at the scene, with no one claiming ownership.
Legal proceedings regarding the seized yaba pills are underway, the press release added.
Confirming the operations, Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam said the BGB remained committed not only to border security but also to preventing drug trafficking and smuggling.
The Cox’s Bazar Battalion, under the Ramu Sector of the Cox’s Bazar Region, regularly conducts operations to secure the border and prevent drug smuggling and other illegal activities, he said.
Such operations would continue to prevent drug trafficking across the border and protect the country’s youth from the harmful effects of drugs, he added.
