Two brothers died after being electrocuted in Kendua upazila of Netrokona on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 6:45 AM  in Kawalikanda village under Paikura Union of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Moad Mia, 7, and Arafat Mia, 5, sons of Abdus Sattar of the village.

According to locals, two brothers woke up in the morning and were playing in their courtyard when one of them came into contact with an electrified earthing wire connected to a neighbour Nuresha Khatun’s rural electricity connection. The other brother was electrocuted while trying to save him.

Local residents later rescued the children and took them to Kendua Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared both dead.

OC Tarikul Islam said, "the earthing wire had somehow become electrified, causing the deaths of the two children."

Police have been sent to the scene, and the bodies will be handed over to the family after completion of legal procedures, he added.
