Popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has been released by police with a stern warning that fresh action will be taken if he attempts to rejoin the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, official sources confirmed on Sunday (October 11).
Rathee, a prominent critic of the Modi administration residing in Germany, had traveled to Delhi to participate in CJP-led protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and alleging irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Police personnel detained Rathee from his residence in Gurugram’s Sector 56. While most demonstrators detained during Saturday's capital-wide crackdown were released by late Saturday night, Rathee remained in police custody until Sunday.
His release came shortly after Delhi Police announced that CJP founder Abhijit Dipke, along with co-convenors Sourav Dash and Ashutosh Ranka, were taken into preventive custody upon arrival in Delhi and presented before an executive magistrate.
Law enforcement officials stated that proceedings against the CJP leaders were initiated under Sections 126 (security for keeping the peace) and 170 (arrest to prevent the commission of cognizable offences) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
