Lego has launched its first-ever Lego Ideas challenge combining Marvel and Star Wars, inviting fans to design crossover creations that could be turned into official Lego sets.
The toy company announced the competition at New York Comic Con on Saturday, allowing participants to combine characters, vehicles and settings from the two Disney-owned franchises in original brick-built designs.
Filmmaker, actor and Marvel Comics writer Kevin Smith announced the initiative. He is also working on the upcoming "Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles" comic series, scheduled for release in January.
The competition features three categories: vehicles, characters and scenes. Participants can design spacecraft equipped with superhero technology, bring characters from both universes together or create new settings that combine elements of the franchises.
Submissions are open through the Lego Ideas platform, with fan voting scheduled to begin on December 8. The winning designs are expected to be announced in 2027 and may be developed into official Lego products.
Smith said the challenge would encourage creativity inspired by the two popular fictional universes and give fans an opportunity to contribute to a crossover project.
Fede Begher, senior vice-president and head of product group at the Lego Group, described the initiative as a milestone for Lego Ideas, saying it would open new possibilities for creativity and storytelling.
Lego has maintained a partnership with Star Wars since 1999, while its Marvel collection includes sets featuring characters such as Spider-Man, Iron Man and the Avengers. The new challenge will allow fans to combine the two franchises in a single Lego Ideas competition for the first time.
Fans can submit their designs and review the competition guidelines through the Lego Ideas website.
