Russian President Vladimir Putin offered assistance to help end the ongoing war in the Middle East during a bilateral meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Turkmenistan on Thursday (October 8).
According to a report by Russian state news agency TASS, Putin stated that Moscow stands ready to do everything within its power to help resolve the situation.
Putin also noted that Tehran has made sincere efforts to end the active hostilities involving the United States and Israel.
For his part, Iranian President Pezeshkian reaffirmed Tehran's commitment to resolving the conflict through diplomatic dialogue.
A statement issued by the Iranian President's office quoted Pezeshkian as saying that new attacks continue to occur despite engaging in talks with the US, but emphasized that Iran will not abandon negotiations.
"We remain engaged in dialogue. However, every time we speak with the United States, fresh attacks follow. Nevertheless, we will not walk away from the negotiation table," Pezeshkian said.
The high-level meeting between Putin and Pezeshkian took place on the sidelines of an event in Turkmenistan ahead of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit, which begins on Friday (October 9).
