A medical aircraft operated by Ontario-based Latitude Air Ambulance crashed in the Atlantic Ocean, killing all six people on board.
The aircraft, known as “Heartbeat 104 Medivac”, was flying from Bermuda to Boston when it went missing. The US Coast Guard conducted an extensive search for nearly 66 hours before finding a large section of the wreckage about 20 miles south of Nantucket.
Authorities subsequently suspended the search and recovery operation.
The aircraft took off from LF Wade International Airport in Bermuda for Boston Logan International Airport on Saturday (October 3). During the flight, the crew reported an electrical problem. Shortly afterwards, the aircraft’s altitude changed significantly before it rapidly descended. Radio communication and tracking data were then lost.
The aircraft was carrying four Latitude Air Ambulance crew members, a patient travelling for medical treatment and a family member accompanying the patient.
The six victims included four Canadians and two Bermudian nationals.
The Canadian victims were pilot Philip Gregory Childerhose, co-pilot Thomas Henry Farquhar, flight attendant Sarah Jane Patton and respiratory therapist Joline Beth Weir.
The two Bermudian victims were 66-year-old Marilyn Lavonne Bean and her 41-year-old son, Sergio Wayne Lottimore.
