At least 20 people, including women and children, were injured after being bitten by a stray dog in two upazilas of Brahmanbaria on Sunday afternoon.
The incidents occurred in Borail of Nabinagar upazila and Lalpur, Sharifpur and Dakshin Tarua areas of Ashuganj upazila.
Twelve of the injured received treatment at Brahmanbaria General Hospital, while the others sought treatment locally. Their identities were not immediately known.
Dr Anisur Haque, an emergency department physician at the hospital, said the injured were given primary treatment and some were admitted. He added that the hospital has sufficient anti-rabies vaccines and the victims are being vaccinated.
Nabinagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saifuddin Anwar said police were informed that a stray dog had bitten 20 people in several areas around Borail from around 4 PM. Police were sent to the area.
Ashuganj Police Station OC Azad Rahman said police had not received any report of dog attacks but would look into the matter.
Brahmanbaria Civil Surgeon Dr Muhammad Ekram Ullah said the hospital has sufficient vaccines and the injured are being vaccinated. He urged people not to panic.
