MPO teachers face delay in new pay scale

MPO-listed teachers and employees may have to wait until November or December to receive the new pay scale, as the government has yet to issue a separate gazette for them, according to Finance Ministry sources.

The government is advancing the process of implementing the ninth national pay scale for government employees, with their October salaries expected to be paid under the new structure along with three months of arrears.

However, uncertainty remains over the implementation of the new pay scale for MPO-listed teachers and employees, as no visible progress has been made on issuing the required separate gazette.

Officials said the delay is partly due to the manual salary-processing system used by MPO-listed institutions, particularly madrasa and technical education institutions. Salary calculations in many of these institutions still have to be done manually, making the implementation process more time-consuming.

MPO-listed teachers and employees have been demanding the quick publication of the gazette alongside the new pay scale.

On September 23, Abdul Malek, president of the Bangladesh Government Employees Welfare Association, called for the government to issue the gazette quickly for around six lakh MPO-listed teachers and employees.
