Three Chhatra Dal leaders expelled over journalist attack

Three leaders of the Rajshahi University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal have been expelled over an attack on journalists at the university, according to a statement issued by the organisation on Monday (October 5).

The expelled leaders are RU Chhatra Dal unit Vice-President Ahsan Habib, Joint General Secretary Hasib Hasan and student leader Bishal Chakraborty.

Ahsan Habib and Hasib Hasan were expelled from their organisational posts, while Bishal Chakraborty was expelled from the organisation’s primary membership for violating organisational discipline, the statement said.

Chhatra Dal central President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir approved the decision.

The action came after journalists and students were attacked in front of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall at Rajshahi University around 8:30PM on Sunday (October 4). At least 10 people, including four journalists, were injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, a case has been filed against several unidentified people over the attack, while the university administration has formed a five-member committee to investigate the incident.

Chhatra Dal has also formed a separate two-member committee to investigate allegations surrounding the attack.
