An audit has found that Tk 12,07,910 collected under two government lease heads at the Raipur Upazila Land Office was not deposited into the government treasury, prompting the Chattogram divisional commissioner’s office to order an investigation against two employees.
The office issued a letter to the Lakshmipur deputy commissioner on October 2, directing an investigation and action against then-head assistant and accounts keeper Jahangir Alam and certificate peshkar (nazir) Md Nakib Hossain Shanto.
According to the letter and audit findings, Tk 1,09,130 and Tk 10,98,780 were collected under two government lease heads at the Raipur land office. The total amount was Tk 12,07,910.
However, no record of the money being deposited into the government treasury was found during the audit of the 2025-26 fiscal year.
The divisional commissioner’s office directed the authorities to investigate the matter, determine responsibility and take action in accordance with the rules. It also ordered the recovery of the money from those responsible and its prompt deposit into the government treasury.
Jahangir Alam, who served as head assistant and accounts keeper at the Raipur land office, is now working at the Ramgati Upazila Land Office in Lakshmipur.
Nakib Hossain Shanto is currently serving as certificate peshkar (nazir) at the Raipur land office.
Repeated attempts to contact Jahangir for his comment were unsuccessful as he did not answer his phone.
Shanto denied the allegation, saying the money had been deposited into the government treasury but was not recorded in the register due to an error. He said this resulted in the audit objection.
Lakshmipur Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Mahbub Hasan confirmed receiving the letter from the divisional commissioner’s office and said necessary action was being taken.
