Forty-six Muslims returned home on Sunday after performing Umrah under an initiative of BNP leader and former state minister for home affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar.
They arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on a Saudi Airlines flight around noon.
The Umrah trip was arranged free of cost for party leaders, activists and members of the public, according to those involved in the initiative.
After returning home, the participants praised the initiative, saying such programmes would encourage religious practice and greater interest in Islam among party leaders and activists.
Speaking on the occasion, Lutfuzzaman Babar said BNP had taken various important initiatives in the past, including the inclusion of “Bismillah” in the Constitution.
He expressed his commitment to continuing religious activities through initiatives of the party in the future.
Babar also spoke about party discipline, saying the party would not take responsibility for the actions of any individual.
He said stricter measures would be taken if necessary in the future to maintain discipline within the party.
The organisers said members of the public, along with party leaders and activists, were given the opportunity to participate in the Umrah programme arranged by Babar.
