At least 458 people were killed in road, waterway and railway accidents across the country in September, according to the Road Safety Foundation (RSF).
The private organisation said in a statement that 423 people were killed and 674 injured in around 442 road accidents last month, an average of about 14 deaths a day.
Of those killed in road accidents, 61 were children and 73 were women. Pedestrians accounted for 106 deaths, or 25.05 per cent of the total.
Motorcycles were involved in the highest number of road accidents, accounting for 34.84 per cent. At least 139 people were killed in motorcycle accidents, representing about 32.86 per cent of all road deaths.
Meanwhile, 11 accidents occurred on waterways in September, leaving at least 16 people dead and four missing.
On railways, 23 accidents claimed at least 19 lives during the month.
Analysing the timing of accidents, the RSF said most occurred in the morning, afternoon and at night. Morning accidents accounted for 24.43 per cent, followed by 21.26 per cent in the afternoon and 16.96 per cent at night.
