Police have arrested a man for allegedly slaughtering a stolen cow for his son’s wedding feast in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha.

Rafiqul Islam, 50, was arrested on Saturday in the Bakshichar area of Kamardaha Union.

According to locals, Rafiqul’s son Sohan got married on Friday. A wedding feast was arranged at their home the following day, where Rafiqul allegedly slaughtered a cow.

Meanwhile, a cow belonging to Shahidul Islam of Purba Masta village was reportedly stolen from his cowshed early Friday. Shahidul later claimed that the cow slaughtered at the wedding feast was his stolen animal.

He filed a complaint with Gobindaganj Police Station, following which police arrested Rafiqul.

Rafiqul denied the allegation, saying he had been framed.

Gobindaganj Police Station OC Mahfuz Alam said legal action was being taken against Rafiqul.
