Ronaldo’s ‘like’ sparks storm in Portugal camp

Observer Online Report

Cristiano Ronaldo has liked an Instagram post criticising his Portugal teammates and coach Jorge Jesus, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his departure from the national team camp earlier this week.

Brazilian former footballer Felipe Melo defended Ronaldo in a video shared by Brazilian channel Sport TV. He criticised Portugal’s players for failing to intervene and make efforts to keep Ronaldo in the camp.

Melo compared Portugal’s treatment of Ronaldo with Argentina’s handling of Lionel Messi and said Ronaldo’s opponents often showed him more respect than his own teammates.

He also backed Ronaldo in his reported dispute with Jesus, while acknowledging that he would change his view if evidence showed that Ronaldo had behaved disrespectfully or left the camp by his own decision.

Ronaldo’s decision to like the post has drawn attention, as it appears to indicate that he agrees with at least some of Melo’s criticism of his teammates and the coach.
