Youth found hanging at in-laws’ home

Police recovered the hanging body of a 27-year-old man from his in-laws’ home in Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur, early Friday. The deceased was identified as Md Jewel, son of Abu Bakar Siddique of Bikrampur, Dhaka.

Police recovered the body from the house of Abu Taher in Char Falcon union around midnight and sent it to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Jewel’s family alleged that his wife, Surma Begum, regularly took his daily earnings and subjected him to physical and mental abuse over money. A local shopkeeper said Jewel appeared distressed when he visited his shop around midnight and spoke of a dispute with his wife.

Surma denied the allegations, saying Jewel returned home intoxicated, assaulted their daughter and threatened her. She said she later found him hanging when she woke up.

Kamalnagar Police Station OC Md Faridul Alam said the exact cause of death would be known after the autopsy report, following which legal action would be taken.
