Youth killed in gunfire during clash in Narsingdi

A 26-year-old man was shot dead during a clash between two groups in the Chowala area of Narsingdi Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon. Two others were also injured in the incident.

The deceased was identified as Babu alias Shahidullah, son of Abdul Kader of the Chowala area.

The clash took place around 4:25 PM behind Lokman Hossain Poura Secondary School in the Chowala area over a longstanding dispute and control of the area.

During the clash, Shahidullah sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest and later died. His body is currently at the morgue of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.

The deceased's brother Rubel, 30, was injured in a sharp-weapon attack. Another man, Miraj, 20, son of Zakir and a resident of Habi Commissioner’s house area near Chowala Palli Bidyut, was also seriously injured in a sharp-weapon attack.

The injured were rescued and taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for treatment. Later, doctors referred one of them to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), commonly known as Pongu Hospital, in Dhaka for better treatment.

Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Ashikur Rahman confirmed the incident, saying the clash occurred over a longstanding dispute over control of the area. One person was killed and two others were injured in the incident.

Tension is prevailing in the area following the incident. District police are working to keep the situation under control.
