The Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation rescued 22 wild animals from Sreemangal in Moulvibazar and surrounding areas last September. The rescued animals included various species of snakes, pythons, jungle cats, civets, capped langurs and mynas.

According to the foundation, these animals were rescued throughout September from human settlements, tea gardens, roads and fishing nets. Notable rescues included five monocled cobra hatchlings, two pythons measuring 14 and 16 feet in length, several spectacled cobras, three jungle cat kittens, two civets and a capped langur. A trapped python from Hail Haor was also rescued on September 24.

Additionally, various snake species and other wild animals were rescued from areas such as Notun Bazar, Bhurbhuria and Bharaura tea gardens, Kalighat, Laharpur, Ichabpur and Nowagaon.

Swapan Deb Sajal, Director of the Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation, stated that if wild animals stray into human localities, people should not kill them out of panic. Instead, they should maintain a safe distance and notify the foundation or the Forest Department. Rescued animals are released into suitable habitats after assessing their species and physical condition.

He added that wildlife plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance of nature, noting that harmless animals often perish due to human lack of awareness and panic.
