A container train derailment in Tejgaon has caused major disruption to train schedules, with trains leaving Dhaka delayed by two to two and a half hours on Thursday (October 1).
The disruption occurred after two wheels of a coach of a Dhaka-Chattogram-bound container train went off the tracks at around 6:20AM, preventing several trains from entering Dhaka on time.
Dhaka Railway Station Master Mohammad Anwar Hossain said the recovery operation was completed around 10:20AM.
As a result, several trains operating on the Dhaka-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Kishoreganj routes were running late.
At around 7PM, the Jamuna Express, scheduled to leave Dhaka for Mymensingh at 5:13PM, had yet to reach Airport Railway Station. The Brahmaputra Express, scheduled to depart at 6:43PM, had also not reached the station.
The Egarosindhur Express, scheduled to leave Dhaka for Kishoreganj at 7:15PM, was also delayed.
The station master said the situation was gradually returning to normal and the train schedule was expected to be restored by the night.
