Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal career appears to be coming to an end after the veteran forward left the national team camp in Copenhagen.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo has reported that Ronaldo has decided not to play for Portugal again, meaning the 1-0 win over Wales could have been his final appearance for the national side.
Ronaldo left the team’s hotel on Wednesday after speaking with Portugal Football Federation president Pedro Proença following head coach Jorge Jesus’ press conference. He later confirmed his departure in a social media post, saying he would reveal the reasons behind his decision “at the right time.”
However, Ronaldo has not officially announced his retirement from international football.
The 41-year-old made his Portugal debut in 2003 and is the country’s record appearance holder and leading scorer, with 234 caps and 146 goals. He currently plays for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.
If O Jogo’s report proves correct, Ronaldo’s departure would mark the end of a remarkable 23-year international career.
