Stamford Univ observes founder Prof Dr MA Hannan Feroz’s 71st birth anniv

Stamford University Bangladesh on Thursday observed the 71st birth anniversary of its founder, president and founding vice-chancellor, the late Professor Dr M A Hannan Feroz, with a programme at its Siddeswari campus in Dhaka.

Faculty members, university officials and associates of the late educationist attended the programme, which featured a floral wreath-laying ceremony and a cake-cutting event.

The programme began at 12:01pm with the laying of floral wreaths in memory of Professor Feroz. Participants recalled his contributions to education and his role in establishing and developing Stamford University Bangladesh.

Speaking at the programme, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Sharif Nafe As-Saber said, “He was not merely the founder of a university; he was a flame that illuminated the darkness and showed others the way forward.”

Members of the university community also recalled Professor Feroz’s work in expanding access to education and his efforts to develop the university as an institution of higher education.

Among those attending were Stamford University Bangladesh Board of Trustees members Rumana Haque Rita and Md Zakir Hossain; Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Sharif Nafe As-Saber; deans of different faculties; departmental chairpersons; academic advisers; Registrar Muhammad Abdul Matin; Proctor Prof Dr Mrityunjoy Acharjee; Director of Finance Mohammad Motaher Hossain; Head of Public Relations Prodeepto Mobarook; Adviser to Student Welfare Tamanna Zerin; Acting Head of Admissions Ashik Mahmud; and other faculty members and officials.

Professor Dr M A Hannan Feroz was born on October 1, 1956, in Rajapur upazila of Jhalakathi district. He died on October 29, 2017.

The university said his contributions to education and his role in its establishment continue to influence its institutional development and academic activities.

The observance marked the university community’s remembrance of its founder and his contribution to the institution’s history.
