‘Old’ Tom Cruise coming to Bangladesh

Hollywood star Tom Cruise is set to appear in a completely different avatar in his upcoming film Digger, playing the role of an eccentric old man.

The film, directed by two-time Oscar winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu, is scheduled for worldwide release on Friday, October 2. Digger will also hit the screens at Star Cineplex in Bangladesh on the same day, bringing Cruise’s unusual new look to local audiences.

With grey-white hair, a large belly, a wrinkled face and completely different body language, Cruise looks almost unrecognisable in the film. The transformation has surprised audiences since the release of the trailer, as the character is far removed from the image audiences usually associate with the actor.

The black comedy explores climate change, corporate greed, the misuse of political power and questions surrounding the future of human civilisation beneath its humour.

Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg and Jesse Plemons also star in Digger.

Meanwhile, another major Hollywood release, Resident Evil, is also set to hit Star Cineplex on the same day.

Based on Capcom’s popular Japanese video game franchise, the Resident Evil film series began nearly two decades ago, with the first movie released in 2002 and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. The franchise eventually grew into a seven-film series.

Sony Pictures rebooted the franchise in 2021 with Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Five years later, a new film titled Resident Evil is arriving as the second reboot and the eighth instalment of the overall franchise.

Directed by Zach Cregger, the film stars Austin Abrams, Jack Champion, Cailee Spaeny and Paul Walter Hauser, among others.
