Ajay Devgn says ‘Drishyam 3’ will definitively end Hindi franchise

Bollywood star Ajay Devgn says the Hindi version of ‘Drishyam 3: The Conclusion’ will bring the franchise to a definitive end, with an unpredictable story and no loose ends.
Devgn, who reprises his role as Vijay Salgaonkar, said the third instalment has a completely different script from the Malayalam version and will not leave the story open-ended.
“This is the conclusion,” Devgn said, stressing that the Hindi film will not leave any loopholes for another instalment.
The actor said he recently watched the completed film with people whose opinions he trusts and was reassured by their response. He credited director Abhishek Pathak and the writing team for creating a film that remains engaging throughout.
“You will not be able to guess,” Devgn said, referring to the film’s twists and turns.
‘Drishyam 3: The Conclusion’ is scheduled to hit theatres on October 2. The film follows Vijay Salgaonkar, a family man who becomes embroiled in a battle of wits with police after covering up an accidental killing to protect his family.
The ‘Drishyam’ franchise began with Jeethu Joseph’s Malayalam film in 2013, starring Mohanlal. The story was subsequently adapted into several Indian languages, including Hindi, with Devgn and Tabu starring in the 2015 remake.
The Malayalam sequel was released in 2021, while the Hindi version, ‘Drishyam 2’, followed in 2022. The Malayalam ‘Drishyam 3’ was released earlier this year and has grossed INR239 crore, according to the report.
Devgn said his character has become calmer and more prepared in the third film. The story picks up directly from the events of ‘Drishyam 2’, rather than introducing another significant time gap.
The actor also said his next release, ‘Golmaal 5’, is complete and scheduled for January. He has also completed a film being made under the working title ‘Ranger’ and is preparing to begin work on ‘Chauhan’.
Asked about another instalment of the ‘Raid’ franchise, Devgn said he would consider returning if a strong script is available. He added that the ‘Rudra’ franchise remains on hold.
Devgn also said he is developing several scripts and hopes to return to directing within the next two years.
