3 remanded over attack on New Guinea Properties Project

A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed three men on remand in a case filed over an alleged attack, shooting, vandalism and looting at a New Guinea Properties Ltd project in South Manikdi under Cantonment Police Station.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Siddiq Azad passed the order after police sought a five-day remand for the accused- Mamun, Md Aslam and Munna. 

Police said the accused were allegedly involved in the attack and that their interrogation was necessary to identify other suspects and recover stolen items.

The case was filed on September 27 by project director Saiful Islam Bhuiyan following an attack on the project late on September 26.

According to the FIR, a group of assailants allegedly entered the project armed with firearms, machetes, sticks and other weapons and fired around 50 blank shots to create panic. They allegedly assaulted a site engineer and security guards before vandalising the main gate, office equipment and furniture.

The complaint also alleged that cash, electrical cables, rods, a scooter and other property were looted. It put the estimated damage and value of looted goods at several crores of taka.

The FIR further alleged that a studio operated by Salman Muqtadir, known as “Brown Fish”, was vandalised, causing substantial damage to television sets, air conditioners, furniture and shooting equipment.

Thirteen people, including the three detained suspects, have been named in the case.
