Ex-DIG Pralay’s Tk 1.27cr assets under ACC scrutiny

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to issue a notice seeking the asset statement of former Additional DIG Pralay Kumar Joarder after finding evidence of Tk 1.27 crore in unexplained assets.

ACC Public Relations Officer Md Aktarul Islam confirmed the decision on Wednesday.

According to the ACC, its investigation found preliminary evidence of Tk 92.14 lakh in assets in Joarder’s name that were beyond his known sources of income. The commission also found Tk 35.57 lakh in unexplained assets in the name of his late wife, Biplobi Rani.

The ACC said it had been investigating allegations that Joarder was involved in extortion and smuggling and had acquired assets through illegal means, including allegations of money laundering.

Joarder served as an Additional DIG at Police Headquarters and as superintendent of police in Jashore.

The ACC said Biplobi Rani, who was an additional director of the National Security Intelligence, died on 6 November 2023 and was therefore exempted from criminal liability.
