DU, BUET out of top 1000 in Times Higher Education Rankings

Dhaka University (DU) and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have failed to secure spots in the top 1,000 of the UK-based Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027.

The rankings, published on the organization's official website on Wednesday, evaluated 2,297 universities across 118 countries using indicators such as teaching quality, research environment, research excellence, industry engagement, and international outlook.

A total of 25 Bangladeshi universities feature in the latest rankings. Four local institutions—American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), Daffodil International University (DIU), Jahangirnagar University (JU), and North South University (NSU)—surpassed DU and BUET to rank jointly in the 801-1000 band.

Meanwhile, DU and BUET were placed in the 1001-1200 band alongside Bangladesh Agricultural University, BRAC University, Gazipur Agricultural University, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology, Jessore University of Science and Technology, and Rajshahi University.

In the 1201-1400 band, Bangladesh Medical University, Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, and United International University were listed alphabetically.

Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Independent University Bangladesh, International Islamic University Chittagong, Khulna University, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, and Chittagong University were placed in the 1401-1600 group.

East West University and the Military Institute of Science and Technology were positioned in the 1801-2000 bracket.
