3 arrested over abduction of youth in Gazipur

Police have rescued a 19-year-old youth abducted from Sreepur and arrested three members of an alleged abduction gang that demanded Tk 30 lakh in ransom.

The arrestees are Md Mamun Mia, 32, Md Fahim, 26, and Md Belayet Hossain, 25.

According to police and the case statement, Md Shuvo Mia, son of Md Jasim Uddin of Nandail in Mymensingh, went missing from Mawna in Sreepur on September 5. His family later received ransom demands of Tk 30 lakh.

A DB team, with help from Gafargaon police, rescued Shuvo from Palli Bidyut Mor in Gafargaon on September 9.

Based on information provided by Shuvo and through technology-assisted investigation, police arrested the three suspects in separate drives in Dhaka and Gazipur early Tuesday.

Police also recovered Shuvo’s iPhone 12 Pro Max, worth around Tk 65,000. The arrestees were sent to court, while efforts are underway to arrest others involved in the case.
