EU envoys meet President at Bangabhaban

Ambassadors of seven EU member states and the head of the EU Delegation in Bangladesh paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban.

The envoys congratulated him on assuming office, while the president thanked them for their greetings and expressed satisfaction over the steady progress in Bangladesh-EU relations.

The president urged greater European investment in Bangladesh and called for expanded legal migration opportunities for skilled workers. He also sought increased EU humanitarian assistance for Rohingya refugees and a stronger role in creating conditions for their safe, voluntary and dignified return to Myanmar.

The envoys pledged to work closely with the government to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, good governance, climate action and sustainable development. They also reaffirmed continued engagement in Bangladesh’s constitutional, judicial and other reform initiatives.

The meeting also discussed regional and global issues, renewable energy, green transition, migration, education, maritime affairs and technology transfer. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to democracy, human rights, international law and a rules-based international order.
