Rahat praises Diljit’s rendition of ‘Sanson Ki Mala’

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has praised Diljit Dosanjh for his rendition of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s iconic qawwali ‘Sanson Ki Mala’ at London’s Wembley Arena.

Speaking about the performance ahead of his concert in Toronto, Rahat said many established singers feel nervous when performing Nusrat’s songs because of his legendary status.

“It is fair to say that many great artists get nervous when singing Nusrat Sahib’s songs. But Diljit, to the best of his ability, did complete justice to the song with all his heart,” Rahat said.

He also praised Diljit’s performance, saying, “We can see it and hear it. So I will praise him.”

Diljit performed the qawwali during his September 12 show at Wembley Arena, which marked a notable occasion in his career. He became the first Punjabi artist to headline a solo show at the venue.

Diljit’s musical style combines Punjabi folk music with contemporary genres, including hip-hop, while Nusrat was renowned worldwide for his Sufi music, qawwali and powerful vocals.

The rendition of Nusrat’s song by a contemporary Punjabi artist created a distinctive moment at the concert, with the audience also joining in during the performance.
