Formal charges were filed with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Monday (September 28) against 19 individuals, including former State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder, over humanity-crimes committed in Mirpur during the July-August mass uprising.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim confirmed that the formal charge sheet was officially submitted to the ICT Registrar's office following a comprehensive investigation.

Prominent accused named in the case include former lawmaker from the Dhaka-16 constituency Md Elias Uddin Mollah and Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, while prosecution officials held back the remaining names.

According to prosecution sources, the ICT investigation agency conducted an extensive probe into the Mirpur atrocities before submitting its final findings to the Chief Prosecutor's office.

After detailed scrutiny, the chief prosecutor's team prepared and submitted the formal charges to the tribunal for judicial proceedings.
