Israeli settlers storm Al-Aqsa Mosque under heavy protection

Dozens of Israeli colonists stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Monday (September 28) morning through the Mughrabi Gate under heavy protection from Israeli occupation police, reported Wafa news agency.

The latest breach follows a massive incursion on Sunday when 1,500 colonists and rabbis entered the compound to perform Talmudic rituals and prayers, particularly near the Cotton Merchants' Gate (Bab al-Qattanin).

Settlers introduced "plant offerings" into the courtyards, engaged in chanting and dancing, and performed collective prostrations as part of ongoing attempts to alter the historical and legal status quo of the holy site.

The incursions took place alongside heightened military measures around the Old City and Al-Aqsa Mosque, where Israeli authorities severely restricted access and movement for Palestinian worshippers.

Repeated incursions were recorded throughout September, including 480 colonists entering on September 13 during the Hebrew New Year and around 100 settlers on September 20 during Yom Kippur.

According to data from the Jerusalem Governorate, 40,661 settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound between January and August 2026, while authorities issued nearly 800 banning orders against Palestinian worshippers during the same period.
