Tanvir’s prison torture allegations ‘baseless’: Bogura jail authorities

In a statement on Saturday (Sept 26), the authorities said a review found no evidence of physical or mental torture or misconduct by prison officials during his stays at Bogura District Jail and Dhaka Central Jail.

Tanvir alleged at a press conference on Friday that he was tortured between Aug 5 and Sept 15, given unidentified medicines and 70–80 injections, and kept in an unhygienic, poorly ventilated cell. He also claimed that some Awami League leaders were taken out of jail at night and returned in the morning.

The jail authorities denied all the allegations, saying no prisoner was taken outside the facility at night and brought back at dawn. They urged Tanvir to provide any evidence supporting his claims.
