Trump hints at renewed Iran strikes after US midterms

US President Donald Trump has indicated that American airstrikes on Iran could resume after the November midterm elections, while Washington has rejected Tehran’s proposed seven-day ceasefire plan, according to The Wall Street Journal. 

Iran had proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the US lifted its naval blockade, eased oil sanctions and observed a ceasefire covering Lebanon. 

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the plan could allow normal shipping through the strategic waterway within a week if Washington agreed to the conditions.

The White House has said diplomatic discussions with Tehran are still continuing through intermediaries, despite the reported rejection of the proposal.
