Youth hacked after protesting drug trade in Chattogram

A social organiser was seriously injured after being allegedly hacked with a sharp weapon for protesting drug dealing in Karnaphuli, Chattogram.

The incident took place in the Masterhat area of Shikalbaha union on Thursday night. Locals later set fire to the alleged drug dealer’s rented house and cowshed, killing a cow.

The injured, Md Mohiuddin, 36, was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Police said he had been involved in a local anti-drug social organisation and had faced threats following his protests against drug dealing.

Police said no written complaint had been filed over the incident as of Friday.
