Passenger welfare body proposes bus, launch fare hikes

The Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity has proposed raising bus fares by 8 poisha per kilometre on long-distance routes and 10 poisha for city services following the fuel price hike.

It also proposed increasing launch fares by 5 poisha per nautical mile.

In an urgent press statement on Tuesday, the organisation’s secretary general, Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, made the proposals.

The organisation criticised authorities for holding closed-door meetings with bus and launch owners without involving passenger representatives in the fare-setting process.
