Nahid demands rollback of fuel price hike

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam has demanded the immediate withdrawal of the government’s fuel price hike.

In a Facebook post on Monday night, Nahid said the government should seek alternatives by reallocating expenditures instead of putting additional pressure on the public.

He questioned why taxes and duties on fuel imports could not be reduced temporarily to ease the burden on consumers amid the current crisis.

Nahid also questioned the decision to implement a new pay scale while the government was citing economic pressure as a reason for raising fuel prices.

The government raised the prices of diesel, petrol, octane and kerosene by Tk 20 per litre from Monday, citing higher international oil prices and other costs amid the Middle East conflict.
