MP Nazrul's wife Mariam buried at midnight in Satkhira

Mariam Khatun, the second wife of former Jamaat-e-Islami leader and Satkhira-4 constituency MP Gazi Nazrul Islam, was laid to rest at her family graveyard in Shyamnagar upazila at midnight following her tragic death in Dhaka.

Her burial took place at 12:45 AM on Monday night at Gabura Union under coastal Shyamnagar Upazila, confirmed Shyamnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiul Alam Patwari.

Family sources said her body arrived in Gabura by road from Dhaka around 12:00 AM on Monday, where local relatives had already prepared the grave. Following religious rituals and a Namaz-e-Janaza, she was laid to rest at 12:45 AM.

Family members, close relatives, local villagers, and police officials attended the funeral services.

Meanwhile, grieving relatives demanded immediate legal action and a fair trial to punish those responsible for her death.

Police recovered Mariam's hanging body from a flat in the NAM building under Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in the capital on Sunday evening.

Following her death, Mariam's father, Md Masum Billah, filed an abetment to suicide case naming Gazi Nazrul Islam, his first wife Maksuda Begum, and brother-in-law Obaidullah as accused. Police have arrested Gazi Nazrul Islam and his first wife in connection with the case.
