Foreign Affairs State Minister Shama Obayed Islam held a courtesy meeting with Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdelwahab Saidani on Sunday.
During the meeting at the Foreign Ministry, both sides reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and growing cooperation between Bangladesh and Algeria.
The state minister urged the ambassador to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector to ensure Bangladesh’s long-term energy security.
They discussed ways to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, climate change, sports, culture and people-to-people connectivity.
The state minister also stressed the need for cooperation in the fertiliser sector to ensure Bangladesh’s food security.
She highlighted the importance of cooperation on climate change and encouraged greater exports of perishable and environment-friendly jute and jute products to Algeria. She also underscored the importance of increasing people-to-people contact and deepening partnerships in sports and culture.
The Algerian ambassador stressed the need to expand cooperation in energy, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, sports and culture, as well as increase high-level visits between the two countries.
