Jyoti calls Bangladesh’s batting collapse ‘normal’

Bangladesh women’s cricket team captain Nigar Sultana Jyoti has described her side’s batting collapse against India in the Asian Games semifinal as a normal occurrence while chasing a big total.

Bangladesh were bowled out for just 81 after India set a target of 196 in the second semifinal at Korogi Sports Park in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture on Sunday. India won by 114 runs to reach the final.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Jyoti acknowledged the team’s batting failure but said such collapses can happen while chasing a big score. She also felt Bangladesh could have restricted India to a lower total with better bowling.

However, she admitted the batting performance was unacceptable, saying the batters failed to take responsibility when the team collapsed for such a low total.

Jyoti also reiterated her decision to step down as Bangladesh’s T20I captain. She said she wants to focus more on her batting and wicketkeeping, adding that she still has much to contribute to the team and the country as a player.

Bangladesh will now face Pakistan in the bronze-medal match on September 22, while India will take on Sri Lanka for gold on the same day.
