3 crude bombs detonated in Sundarganj

Three crude bombs exploded in quick succession in the Sundarganj area of Gaibandha as perpetrators yelled out the slogan "Joy Bangla."

The incident occurred within a span of just four minutes in the Gopalcharan area of Ward No. 3 in the Sundarganj municipal area of Gaibandha early Sunday morning (September 20).

Although the explosions were loud, there were no reports of casualties or major damage; however, the sudden event caused panic among local residents.

According to local sources and eyewitnesses, the first crude bomb was detonated at 4:26 AM in front of the residence of Abu Solaiman Sarkar Saja, the former Vice Chairman of Sundarganj Upazila Parishad. Just two minutes later, at 4:28 AM, a second bomb exploded in front of the nearby Gopalcharan High School, followed by a third explosion at 4:30 AM on the road south of the school.

Locals claimed that the perpetrators shouted "Joy Bangla" slogans during the blasts. The residents, startled when the early morning silence was broken by the loud noises, rushed out of their homes onto the streets.

Describing the incident, former Upazila Vice Chairman Abu Solaiman Sarkar Saja said, "Shortly before the Fajr prayers, a loud explosion suddenly occurred in front of my house. Within a few minutes, I heard the sounds of two more explosions – one in front of the school and another on the road to its south. This kind of incident has never happened in this area before. The loud blasts left my family and I terrified. Neighbors also came out of their homes. Later, the police arrived and collected evidence from the scene."

Upon receiving the news, police from Sundarganj Police Station promptly visited the site and recovered remnants (casings) of the exploded crude bombs.

Shahin Mohammad Amanullah, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sundarganj Police Station, stated that police were dispatched to the location immediately after the report was received. Bomb-like casings were recovered from the scene, though no one was detained immediately. The matter is being investigated with high priority, and efforts are underway to identify those involved and bring them to justice.
