Students of Comilla University (CoU) withdrew their block on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway after one and a half hours on Sunday (September 20), following the murder of 13-year-old Apratim.

Traffic movement on the highway began returning to normal around 1:00 PM after the protesting students left the road, having blocked it since 11:30 AM.

Earlier, the first janaza for Apratim was held at the Comilla University campus at around 10:15 AM. Hundreds of students then took out a procession toward the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, blocking it and triggering a 10-kilometer traffic jam on both lanes.

Protesters carried placards and chanted slogans demanding the immediate arrest and punishment of the killers, expressing disappointment over the police's initial response.

Mainamoti Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anisur Rahman said the students ended their demonstration peacefully without any untoward incident, and traffic flow was restored.

Police have detained two individuals, identified as Tuhin, 19, and Anas, for questioning, suspecting the boy was killed for the iPhone. District police have scheduled a press briefing to provide further updates.

Apratim was laid to rest at a local graveyard near his residence around 11:40 AM on Sunday, while his father, Firoz Shahriar, filed a murder case against unidentified individuals at Sadar South Model Police Station.
