11-party alliance’s Dhaka-Rangpur long march begins

The alliance is also demanding measures to curb rising prices of essential commodities, corruption, extortion and land grabbing, improve law and order, end narrow partisan practices, and implement the Teesta Master Plan.

The rally began around 7:00 AM under the direction of Dr Rezaul Karim, a member of the central executive council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and secretary of its Dhaka North city unit. The programme formally began with an opening speech by Dr AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, assistant secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and coordinator of the 11-party alliance.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, who is also the opposition leader, is scheduled to address the rally as the chief guest.

Other special guests include Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam, LDP Chairman and former minister Col (retd) Oli Ahmed, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Allama Mamunul Haque, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Bangladesh Nezam-e-Islam Party Ameer Maulana Abdul Qayyum Chobhania, Amar Bangladesh Party President Mujibur Rahman Manju, Jatiya Ganatantrik Party Vice-President Engineer Rashed Pradhan, Bangladesh Labour Party Chairman Dr Mostafizur Rahman Iran, Bangladesh Development Party Chairman Advocate Anwarul Islam Chan, and Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan Secretary General Mufti Fakhrul Islam.

Top leaders of the 11-party alliance are also expected to attend the rally.

The long march to Rangpur is scheduled to begin after the rally, according to organisers.
