Father Jailed for bid to arrange marriage of 14-yr-Old girl to 17-yr-Old boy

A man was sentenced to one month in jail for attempting to arrange the marriage of his 14-year-old daughter to a 17-year-old boy in Keshabpur of Jashore.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Anwar Hossain handed down the sentence through a mobile court on Friday (September 18) evening.

According to the mobile court authorities, arrangements had been made for the marriage of a Class 10 student from Satbaria Union of Keshabpur with Saiful Islam, a resident of Bamnakhali village in Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira.

Acting on intelligence, UNO Anwar Hossain went to the wedding venue and stopped the marriage. He subsequently sentenced the girl's father, Bablu Sardar, to one month in jail through the mobile court.

The UNO said both the boy and the girl are minors and the girl's father was sentenced for attempting to arrange their child marriage.
