Kane speaks out on Ballon d’Or after Mbappe and Yamal

Harry Kane, who scored 73 goals for Bayern Munich and England last season, has emerged as one of the prominent names in the Ballon d’Or race after an outstanding campaign.
However, the English striker said he is not paying much attention to the individual award and is instead focused on his goals for the new season.
Kane described the 2025-26 campaign as the best season of his career. Alongside his individual achievements, he was also pleased with his team’s success.
With 73 goals last season, Kane became the first player since Lionel Messi, who scored 82 goals in the 2011-12 season, to score more than 70 goals in a campaign.
According to Reuters, Kane told Spanish newspaper Marca in an interview on Friday that he was pleased with his performances.
“I’ve never really liked talking too much about myself. But I will say that last season was fantastic, both individually and as a team,” Kane said.
Asked whether it was the best season of his career, Kane replied without hesitation: “Without a doubt, this was the best season of my career.”
His 73-goal haul has naturally put him in the Ballon d’Or conversation. No English player has won the award since Michael Owen in 2001. Kane is among the contenders alongside Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe and Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal.
Despite his remarkable goal tally, Kane said the Ballon d’Or is beyond his control.
“I’m really proud of the number of goals I scored, but winning the Ballon d’Or is not in my hands. It depends entirely on the voters. For me, last season is now in the past,” he said.
Kane said his focus has now shifted to the new campaign and what he can achieve ahead.
“I’m thinking about the new season now and focusing on what else I can achieve going forward,” he added.
The Ballon d’Or winner is scheduled to be officially announced on October 26. While Kane remains among the names being discussed, the final decision will be made by the voters.
