The Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) has replaced photographs of six prominent literary figures displayed at its museum after several of the images were found to be incorrect, sparking criticism.

The disputed photographs were displayed under a section featuring renowned poets and writers associated with Dhaka University. The figures included Palli Kabi Jasimuddin, Shaheed Munier Chowdhury, Abul Quasem Fazlul Huq, poet Asad Chowdhury, Abul Fazal and linguist Muhammad Enamul Haq.

Dhaka University Bangla Department Professor Tariq Manzoor said the photographs used for several of the figures did not match their actual identities. He also raised questions about whether some of the images had been digitally altered.

DUCSU officials said the photographs had been collected from the internet and that some images were altered during the enhancement process. They denied that the photographs had been created entirely using AI.

Following the criticism, DUCSU authorities contacted the designer and replaced the disputed photographs on Thursday.

The incident has prompted renewed calls for proper verification of historical photographs and information before they are displayed in official university spaces.
